| Terrorist Target : Canton Ohio CantonWeb Article Page 1 of 2 Tuesday, September 18, 2001
As reports continue to trickle in, it's becoming increasingly clear that New York and Washington weren't the only targets in the recent attack on America. And though so far it hasn't been offically announced, all signs point to targets in Ohio as part of the recent attack - and probable future attacks.
Details remain sketchy, but it appears as though two days after the deadly attacks in New York and Washington, an attack was made in the Canton / North Canton area leaving five people injured, with at least two seriously wounded, two in critical condition and one in stable condition and hopefully recovering. The attack appears to be directly related to Tuesdays suicide hijackings.
The first-hand report regarding this attack is from one of the injured has been posted in the forum and is reprinted below with permission of the author.
As an American by birth, I have to say that I am ashamed by what I saw yesterday near Belden Village Mall.
Two obviously Muslim women were walking from a store and two men began verbally insulting and threatening them. The women ran to their car and left. They were clearly afraid - and rightfully so.
It sickened me to watch those two men theaten those women. And when I expressed my disgust they threatened me as well and called me a "traitor".
This letter is to those "men".
Because of your threats I was afraid to tell you more of what I thought - and now I am angry. Angry with you for your stupidity and angry with myself for my own cowardice.
This great country was founded on freedom of religion, freedom of belief and even the freedom to have no beliefs. Our fathers, grandfathewrs and great grandfathers fought for that right. The died for that right. It is THEIR blood that paid for that right.
By letting you intimidate me into "letting it go" I denied my own country and I hate you for it. My responsibilty as an American is to protect my rights and the rights of others. It's not just the job of the military. It's not just the job of the police. It's your job and it's my job.
I refuse to let you make me fail in that again.
It is my deepest hope that those here can see people for who and what they are and not continue to blame ALL Muslims for the WTC any more than anyone should blame ALL Christians for the atrocities done in the name of our God. And there have been many.
So at this moment, I want to apologize to those two women - one American to another - and say that in my heart I am sorry for the way you were treated by the scum at the mall. I'm sorry you were made afraid here in your own home. And I'm sorry that I let you down. I promise never to do that again.
Sincerely, Ray
Makes you think, doesn't it?
The real targets of the recent terrorist strikes weren't made of concrete and steel. And the people in the buildings and planes weren't the only casualties. Our minds and hearts - yours and mine - were the real targets. And we've all been injured and in a sense belong on the list of casualties right along side those on the aircraft and in the buildings.
The author of this post was a terrorist victim. The two men in described in the posting were victims. The two Muslim women were victims.
